Pedro Torres León Graduates with Cinematography MA Thesis The End of Shadows

We are pleased to share that Pedro Torres León, MA student in Cinematography at Aalto University, has successfully graduated with his thesis The End of Shadows (2024).

In this 76-page auto-ethnographic research, Torres León reflects on the very essence of cinematography. Through self-reflection, conversations, literature, and analysis of his own films, he develops the hypothesis that observation is the core of cinematography—with light as its foundation. By examining how composition, lighting, color, and movement serve the art of visual storytelling, the thesis argues that an educated eye, trained through observation, shapes the cinematographer’s creative choices.

The thesis was supervised by Rauno Ronkainen and advised by Elen Lotman.
